View Assessment Data
On the View Assessment Data page, you can see assessment scores for Star Reading, Star Math, and Star Early Literacy. It also includes scores for any Summative assessment data that you have imported, which are converted to the Star scale that you select.
You can get to this page from several locations, including:
- Track Results (available on the Home page if you have Renaissance Flow)
- the Reading Dashboard (on the Home page under Dashboards and Reporting)
- the Math Dashboard (on the Home page under Dashboards and Reporting)
- the Star Custom Dashboard (in Star Custom)
Selecting the Students, Time Period, and Star Scale
To start, choose what you want to see:
- At the top of the page, select the first link to choose the students for whom you want to view data.
In the columns that open, find and choose the students whose data you want to see.
District-level personnel will typically be asked to choose the school, teacher, class or group, and then the students. School administrators and non-teaching staff are typically asked to choose a teacher, class or group, and students. Teachers are typically asked to choose the class or group and students.
In the last column, first choose whether to see data for all students in the class or to select the students. If you choose to select students, check the box for each student that you want to include in the data.
When you have finished, select Apply.
The groups that are available are custom groups that you have added for Dashboards, Planner, Star Custom, Accelerated Math Instructional Practice, and AR 360 (depending on the subject that is selected).
To add custom groups to the class (or to change groups that you have set up), select Manage Groups in the top right corner of the page.
In the Classes and Groups column, you will see the class listed, and then each group for a class. For example, if Class A has custom groups set up named Blue Group and Green Group, you would see Class A listed alone, then Class A - Blue Group and Class A - Green Group.
- Next, select the second link to choose the timeframe to view data for: custom dates, all time, the school year, the current marking period, the last 30 days, the last 7 days, or today.
Marking periods are set up in Renaissance Place when administrators or non-teaching staff choose School Years on the Home page and then choose Add/Edit Marking Periods. The Review Student Results view only recognizes marking periods that have the type set to "Marking Period" (not other types such as quarters or semesters). If there is more than one, the software uses the first marking period in the list that fits the criteria.
In the Track Student Work view, when you choose Marking Period as the time period to view data for, the software uses the current marking period that has the type set to Marking Period.
You can't select Marking Period in the Review Student Results view if no school marking periods are set up in Renaissance Place.
If you choose to see data for a custom date range, you can either type the start and end dates or select them from the calendars that open as you click in each field. You can select Clear dates (in the top right corner) to remove dates that you have entered or selected. When you're done choosing the dates, select Continue (or Cancel if you decide not to use custom dates).
Custom dates can include previous school years.
- Choose the scale that you want used for scores shown on the page. Star scores and imported summative test scores on this page will be shown in the scale that you select.
- Lexile® Scale refers to the Lexile® Measure scale.
- PARCC is the scale used for assessments from the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers.
- Smarter Balanced is the scale used for scores on Smarter Balanced assessments.
- Star Enterprise is the standard Scaled Score range of 0-1400.
- Star Unified is a single scale of 0-1400 that unites Star Early Literacy, Star Math, and Star Reading on the same scale. The Star Unified scale also has the desirable measurement properties of a Rasch score scale.
If some scores aren't compatible with the scale that you choose, they will be shown in their original form. You will see * after those scores to refer you to the footnote at the bottom of the page.
Viewing Assessment Data
The page will list Summative test data that you have imported in Star Custom as well as Star Reading, Star Math, and Star Early Literacy data (English and Spanish). If you came to this view through the Reading Dashboard, only reading tests will be shown; if you came through the Math Dashboard, only math tests will be shown. If you have the Track Results dashboard, you will see both reading and math tests.
You will see the date, the assessment name, the average score for each assessment that students have taken, and a View link.
If you select View for a Star assessment, you can choose to view mastery scores based on that assessment's data on the Monitor Student Mastery page.
If you select View for an imported summative assessment, you can choose to view either mastery scores or subdomain scores.
If you click the arrow next to a date and assessment, you can see a list of the students who took the assessment and their scores, and you can select the View link and choose to see mastery for that student (and subdomain scores for imported summative assessments).
If you click a student's name, you can see the student's scores for each time he or she took the assessment. You can select Complete in the Status column to access a Mastery link that takes you to mastery/domain scores.
For imported Summative assessments, you have two additional options: Review/Rescore and View Subdomain Scores.
If you select Review/Rescore, you can see the student's score. If you need to make corrections, select Edit Score, change the score, and choose Apply Changes.
If you choose View Subdomain Scores, you can see the student's subdomain scores for the assessment.
Planning Instruction or Viewing Skills and Resources
To find resources to use for instruction for the selected students, select Plan Instruction or View Skills & Resources in the top-right corner of the page. (This button is not available if you have selected a group that was created in Star.)
If the button is Plan Instruction, you will go to Planner, where you can choose skills and resources and generate a Lesson Plan.
If the button is View Skills & Resources, you will go to Planner Trial, where you can choose skills and resources and preview them as needed.
For more information, click the help link (?) on the Planner or Planner Trial page that opens.
Select the graph icon at the top of the page to go back and choose a different view (such as Monitor Student Mastery or Review Student Results).
