Star Reading - Enterprise Test Preference

How do I get to this page?

  1. Log in to Renaissance Place.
  2. On the Home page, select Star Reading (or Reading Assessments under Star 360 if you are using the Star 360 Suite).

  3. Select Preferences.
  4. On the Preferences page, select Edit at the end of the Enterprise Tests row (in the District Preferences section for the district-level setting, or in the Class Preferences section for the class-level setting; see below).

Who can do this with default capabilities?

  • District Level Administrators: can set at district level
  • School Level Administrators: can set at class level for classes in their own school
  • Teachers: can set at class level for their own classes

The Enterprise Test Preference determines if students can only take Enterprise tests (which is the default setting) or if they can take either an Enterprise or a non-Enterprise (Progress Monitoring) test.

  • The district-level setting of this preference applies to all classes in all schools in a district.
  • The class-level setting of this preference can apply to all classes in a school or individual classes.

If you have both Star Reading Enterprise and Star Math Enterprise, note that this preference can be set in either program, but the same setting is shared by both programs. For example, if you set the preference to Enterprise tests only in Star Reading Enterprise, then Enterprise tests only will also be set for this preference in Star Math Enterprise.

Students need to have an intervention goal set in order to take the non-Enterprise test.

The shorter version of the test is called "non-Enterprise" (Progress Monitoring) in the software; the full-length version is called "Enterprise." You do have the option of using the non-Enterprise version of Star Reading, but we recommend that you use Star Reading Enterprise assessments for all testing events, if possible. The Enterprise test provides more precise data that can be used for more purposes. For example, only by administering the Enterprise test can you see data on specific skills or estimate mastery of state standards. Using this test type also makes it easier to compare results over time.

One reason you might choose to administer the Progress Monitoring version of the test is the available time for testing. If you are frequently testing students who are in intervention and you are concerned about testing time, a district-level administrator can set the Enterprise Test Preference, allowing schools to administer the Progress Monitoring version of Star Reading outside of the screening windows. Administrators in those schools can choose the classes in which students may take both the Enterprise tests and Progress Monitoring tests, and teachers for those classes can decide whether the software should administer the Enterprise or Progress Monitoring test. (Keep in mind that the software will only administer the shorter test to students for whom an intervention goal has been set.)

For more information, consult the Star 360™ Implementation Guide.

Preference Setting Interactions

The test that will be administered depends on the district-level setting of this preference, the class-level setting of this preference, and also the screening windows.

  • If the preference is set to Enterprise tests only at the district level, then the preference cannot be set at the class level and the Enterprise test will always be given regardless of the screening window.
  • If the preference is set to Enterprise and non-Enterprise tests at the district level, the class-level setting of the preference determines which test is given:

    • If the preference is set to Enterprise tests only at the class level, the Enterprise test will always be given regardless of the screening window.
    • If the preference is set to Enterprise and non-Enterprise tests at the class level, the Enterprise test will be given within the screening windows and the non-Enterprise test will be given outside the screening windows.

  1. After you select Edit on the Star Reading Preferences page, you will see your district and the current setting of the preference. Select either Enterprise tests only or Enterprise and non-Enterprise tests .

  2. Select Save Changes . You will see a message confirming that your change has been saved.

  3. Select Back at the top of the page to return to the Preferences page when you are done.

Note: If the district-level preference (above) has been set to Enterprise tests only, you cannot set the preference at the class level.

  1. Select the shaded section of the "Setting for..." sentence to choose which class or group you want to set the Enterprise Test Preference for .

  2. In the window that opens, select a school in the Schools column . (The preference can only be set for one school at a time. School level administrators and teachers who are only assigned to one school will not need to select a school.)

  3. In the Classes and Groups column , you have two options:

    • Choose All Classes and Groups to apply the same preference setting to all classes and groups that are listed.
    • Choose Select Classes and Groups if you want to set this preference only for specific classes and groups in this list. Select the classes and groups you want the preference to apply to .

You can search the items in a column by clicking within that column and then typing Ctrl+F or control-F on the keyboard.

  4. Select Apply to apply your choices, or Cancel to close this window without saving your changes.

  5. The classes and groups you chose will be listed on the page, and described in the "Setting for..." sentence.

For each class or group, select either Enterprise tests only or Enterprise and non-Enterprise tests .

You can make the same choice for all classes and groups at once by selecting Set All... , selecting either Enterprise tests only or Enterprise and non-Enterprise tests in the pop-up window , and then selecting Apply to All .

  6. When you have finished making your changes, select Save Changes to save them (you will see a confirmation message once your changes have been saved). You can also select Undo Changes to undo your changes to the preference setting.

  7. Select Back at the top of the page to return to the Preferences page when you are done.
