About Reporting Parameter Groups

Reporting parameter groups are groups of students based on the students' school enrollment date, ethnicity, gender, language, characteristics, and/or grade. When you generate a customizable report, you can choose one of these reporting parameter groups as an option; the report will only be created for students in that group.

  • New reporting parameter groups can be created any time, and existing groups can be edited.
  • Administrators can remove the Filter Reports by Characteristics and Filter Reports by Ethnicity capabilities. If either of these capabilities has been removed, then characteristics and/or ethnicity cannot be used to create a reporting parameter group.
  • For characteristics, Any or All can be chosen to specify whether the group will include students with any of the selected characteristics or only those with all of the selected characteristics. The characteristics that are listed include custom characteristics that have been added. Characteristics are not specified when student information is added or edited; students' characteristics must be manually edited.
  • Ethnicity, gender, language, and grade are specified when student information is added or edited.
  • Reporting parameter groups can be deleted.

Who can do this with default capabilities?

District Level Administrator, District Staff, School Level Administrator, School Staff, Teachers

On the Reporting Parameter Groups page, you can set up or change a group of students for which you want to print reports by selecting from the following options.

To get to the Reporting Parameter Groups page:

  1. Click Star Math on the Home page, then click Reports.
  2. Click the name of one of these customizable reports: Annual Progress, Diagnostic, Growth, Parent Report—English, Parent Report—Spanish, Screening, State Performance - Class, State Performance - Student, State Standards - Class, State Standards - District, Student Progress Monitoring, Summary, Test Activity, or Test Record.
  3. On the Report Options page, for the Reporting Parameter Group option, click Create New or Edit Selected.


To edit an existing reporting parameter group, choose it from this drop-down list. If you want to create a new group, keep the default selection (Create New Group).

If you are editing an existing reporting parameter group, the name of that group will appear here; you can change the group name if you want to.

If you are creating a new reporting parameter group, type the name for it in the blank field.

To limit the reporting parameter group to students who were enrolled in the school before a specific date, type that date in the Enroll Date field.

Check the box next to each ethnic group that you want students in the reporting parameter group to be a member of. You can click select all or deselect all to perform this step more efficiently.

Ethnicity can be specified when you add students or edit their information.

Note: Your administrator may have removed the Filter Reports by Ethnicity capability, which gives you the right to select ethnicities when you create reporting parameter groups.

Check the box next to each gender that you want students in the reporting parameter group to be. You can click select all or deselect all to perform this step more efficiently.

Gender can be specified when you add students or edit their information.

Check the box next to each language that you want students in the reporting parameter group to understand. You can click select all or deselect all to perform this step more efficiently.

Language can be specified when you add students or edit their information.

Check the box next to each characteristic that you want students in the reporting parameter group to have. You can click select all or deselect all to perform this step more efficiently.

You must also choose Any or All to specify whether the group will include students with any of the selected characteristics or only those with all of the selected characteristics. The characteristics that are listed include custom characteristics that you have added.

Characteristics are not specified when you add or edit student information; instead, you must manually edit students' characteristics.

Note: Your administrator may have removed the Filter Reports by Characteristics capability, which gives you the right to select characteristics when you create reporting parameter groups.

Check the box next to each grade that you want students in the reporting parameter group to be in. You can click select all or deselect all to perform this step more efficiently.

Grade can be specified when you add students or edit their information.

When you have finished choosing the criteria for this demographic group, click Save to save your changes or Cancel to exit the page without saving your changes.

After you create or edit a parameter group, you can delete it if you want to by clicking Delete. (The Delete button is only available after you select an existing reporting parameter group.)
