Editing the Benchmarks Preference

Who can do this with standard capabilities?

District Administrators, School Administrators

Benchmarks are levels that students must master by a target date. Administrators choose the target date and the benchmark level for each grade using the Benchmarks Preference. All users can view the Benchmarks Preference page, but only administrators (district and school) can edit the benchmark levels.

The use of benchmarks is optional, but highly recommended. The Summary Dashboard uses benchmark data, which gives you a high-level overview of your students' performance. The benchmarks set for your school are also shown in the Benchmarks Set for Mastery Table on the Set Level, Hold/Reset, Edit Mastery Time, Add/Remove Level, and Reorder pages.

For more information about benchmarks, see MathFacts in a Flash: Grade-Level Benchmarks.

To edit the Benchmarks Preference, follow these steps:

  1. On the Home page, select MathFacts in a Flash, then Preferences as shown below.

  2. If necessary, use the School drop-down list (above the preferences tables) to select your school. (Since the Benchmarks preference is a school preference, it does not matter which class is selected.)
  3. Under User and School Preferences, select Benchmarks.
  4. The Set Benchmarks page opens. To change the Benchmark Target Date, select the calendar button and select the desired date.
  5. The default Benchmark Target Date is April 1. Benchmarks are designed to track student progress towards end-of-year goals. April 1 is the default target date because most schools take their end-of-year standardized tests in April or May.

  6. To change the Benchmark for a specific grade, select the drop-down list in the Benchmark column for the grade and select the desired level. The grades shown are the grades available to the school. The maximum is Early Education through 12.
  7. By default, these benchmarks are assigned to grades 2-12 (and none are assigned to younger grades):

    • Grade 2: Addition Review 2
    • Grade 3: Review: +, -
    • Grade 4: Review: +, -, ×
    • Grade 5: Review: +, -, ×, /
    • Grades 6-12: Review: +, -, ×, /, fractions, decimals, conversions

  8. To save your changes and return to the Home page, select Save. To return to the Home page without saving any of your changes, select Cancel.
  9. Selecting Default returns the Benchmark Target Date to April 1 and returns the benchmark level for each grade to the default levels listed in step 5.
