How Students View Progress on Quizzes Taken

After students have logged in and selected Accelerated Reader or Take a Quiz, they can select Progress at the top of the page to view:

  • their progress toward goals for the current marking period for Reading Practice Quizzes taken
  • their Certifications, and
  • words learned based on their Vocabulary Practice Quizzes

The three options on the left let students select what they want to see.

Reading Practice or My Reading

For most students, this view includes:

  • Where today is in the current marking period and how much time remains in that marking period; to change the marking period, students select Current Marking Period.
  • The student's Reading Practice goals for average percent correct, total points, and average book level (if they are used). For the points goal, the student will also see the percentage of the goal that has been achieved. You will only see one book level (ATOS or Lexile® Measure depending on the Book Level Settings). A star means the student has met the goal. Note that only passed quizzes count toward goals; the number of passed quizzes is shown at the bottom.
  • The number of books read.
  • The number of words read.
  • The percentage of fiction and nonfiction based on points earned.

For primary students, this view includes:

  • The student's progress toward the points goal as shown by the number of points and the portion of the flower that is filled in. The goal is shown above the flower. The flower pot shows how many points are earned (it counts up to 5 points at a time if no goal is set), and below the flower pot, the student will see the percentage of the goal that has been earned. The points count starts over whenever a new marking period with new goals starts. If no goals are set, the points count starts over every time the student has earned 5 points.
  • A sun with a smiling face if the student's average percent correct on Reading Practice Quizzes is at or above the goal (or above 85% if no goal is set).
  • If the student has not met the goal, the student will only see an outline of the sun.

  • Today's date and the end of the marking period. The line marked "Today" shows how many points the student should have achieved by today to be on track to meet the goal.
  • A Find My Next Book button, which they can select to see ideas for the next book they may want to read.

Certifications

This view is available if the student has Reader Certification goals set. It includes:

  • A line chart showing how much time remains in the chosen marking period. The student can select the link to choose a different marking period.
  • The student's goal, including the criteria and when the student started working on the goal. Only passed quizzes count toward goals.
  • The achieved goals for the current school year. (A number after the certification means the student re-certified at that level that many times.)

Vocabulary Practice Quizzes Taken/Words I Learned

For most students, this view includes:

  • A line chart showing how much time remains in the chosen marking period. The student can select the link to choose a different marking period.
  • The total number of words learned.
  • The average grade level of all the learned words.
  • The number of quizzes taken.
  • A list of the words learned, sorted by grade level. Newly learned words are identified by a green circle.

For primary students, this view includes:

  • The number of new words learned.
  • A list of the words learned, sorted by grade level. Newly learned words are identified by a green circle.
