Reading Practice Goals Record Book

In the Reading Practice Goals Record Book, teachers, school administrators, and district administrators can set four Reading Practice goals for students: average percent correct, daily reading time, points, and average book level.

  • The average percent correct goal is the average score that students earn on Reading Practice Quizzes during the marking period. You can choose values from 85%-90% for this goal.
  • The daily reading time goal is the time set aside for the class to spend reading every day.
  • The points goal is the number of points that students earn on Reading Practice Quizzes during the marking period. Point values vary from book to book. The number of points earned depends on the student's score on the quiz for the book. Points goals must be greater than or equal to 0.1 and can include up to one digit after the decimal place.
  • The average book level goal is the average ATOS book level for the titles for which the students pass Reading Practice Quizzes during the marking period. Book levels are based on the difficulty of the book. Average ATOS book level goals can range from 0.1 to 20.0, and Lexile┬« Measure can range from BR to 1800.

To view the Reading Practice Goals Record Book for an entire class, follow these steps:

  1. On the Home page, if you see Accelerated Reader, click it, then click Record Books and Goals.
  2. If you have the Accelerated Reader 360 Suite, select Independent Reading, then Record Books and Goals.

  3. If necessary, select the school or class or both from the drop-down lists.
  4. Click Reading Practice Goals.

Goals are set by marking period or by school year. Before you can set goals, you must select the marking periods that you want to use for goals by clicking Select Marking Periods on the Edit Reading Practice Goals page. Then, click Select next to each marking period you want to use. Click Save when you are finished. You can set goals for either the entire school year or individual marking periods, but not both. As you're selecting the marking periods for the class, the software will not allow you to select overlapping marking periods.

Reading Practice goals are different from the certification goals that are set in the Reading Practice Certifications Record Book.
