Independent Reader

There are several reader certification goals that you can set for your students. Each one has its own requirements that the students must meet to be certified at that level. Independent Reader is one of the reader certification levels.

Certification goals are different from the Reading Practice goals (average book level, average percent correct, and total points).

Students should achieve this certification only once; teacher approval is required before Independent Reader is certified in the program.

To earn Independent Reader, the student must Independently read at least three books with a 1.2 or higher ATOS book level (or 160L Lexile® Measure), and he or she must accumulate ten points on books. Books read To, read With, or read Independently for this level count toward point accumulation.

The student must also meet the minimum scoring requirements in the Certifications Preference for the quizzes taken on the books.

An Independent Reader certification goal must be set for students in order for the software to track the students' progress toward the certification and award it automatically. The TWI Monitoring Preference setting also affects whether the student's progress is tracked and the certificate is awarded automatically.

You can print customizable award certificates using Reader Certification Certificates.
