Selecting Class Marking Periods

You must select marking periods for your class before you can set Reading Practice goals for your students. Reading Practice goals include average percent correct, daily reading time, points earned, and average book level on passed quizzes.

Reading Practice goals are different from the certification goals that are set in the Reading Practice Certifications Record Book.

There are two times when you assign a marking period to a class:

There is an important distinction between the two. When you add a class, the marking period you assign to it simply indicates to the program the portion of the school year during which the class will be held. When you assign a marking period to the class through the Reading Practice Goals Record Book, you are identifying the marking periods for which you want to set Reading Practice goals.

For Reading Practice goals to carry over from one marking period to another, you must have those marking periods selected before the first day of that marking period begins. We recommend that at the beginning of the school year you select all the marking periods for that whole school year rather than selecting marking periods as the school year progresses.

  1. On the Home page, if you see Accelerated Reader, click it, then click Record Books and Goals.

    If you have the Accelerated Reader 360 Suite, select Independent Reading, then Record Books and Goals.

    If necessary, choose the school and class from the drop-down lists. Choose My Classes instead of a school if you want only the Accelerated Reader RP classes you are assigned to as a teacher to be in the class list, regardless of the school.

  2. Click Reading Practice Goals in the list of Class Record Books.
  3. Click Select Marking Periods on the Edit Reading Practice Goals Record Book page.
  4. In the Available School Marking Periods section on the Select Class Marking Periods page, click Select next to each marking period for which you want to set student goals. As you do this, the marking periods will be added to the list at the top of the page. Note that the program will not allow you to choose marking periods with overlapping dates.
  5. Click Save when you're finished.
