Adding an Achieved Reading Practice Certification for a Student

You can add an achieved certification record for a student. You do not need to add certification records manually if you have set reader certification goals for your students and enabled TWI monitoring. When you do this, the software will award certifications automatically as your students earn them. However, you may need to add certifications manually if:

  • A student has transferred from another school and has a printed record of reader certifications.
  • The TWI Monitoring Preference is disabled. Accelerated Reader uses TWI information to determine whether students meet certification requirements for independent reading, so the software cannot award certifications automatically if the TWI Monitoring preference is disabled. (You can find this preference under the School Student Quizzing preferences.)

Who can do this with standard capabilities?

District Administrators, School Administrators, Teachers

Certification goals are different from the Reading Practice goals that are set in the Reading Practice Goals Record Book.

Follow these steps to manually award reader certifications to students:

  1. On the Home page, if you see Accelerated Reader, click it, then click Record Books and Goals.

If you have the Accelerated Reader 360 Suite, select Independent Reading, then Record Books and Goals.

If necessary, choose the school and class from the drop-down lists. Choose My Classes instead of a school if you want only the Accelerated Reader RP classes you are assigned to as a teacher to be in the class list, regardless of the school.

  2. Click Reading Practice Certifications in the list of Class Record Books.
  3. Click the name of the student you want to work with.
  4. Click Add Achieved Certification under Actions on the left side of the View Student Reading Practice Certification Records page.
  5. On the Add Student Reading Practice Achieved Certification page:
    1. Choose the reader certification level that the student achieved from the Achieved Certification drop-down list.
    2. Type the date the student started working toward and achieved the certification in the Date Started and Date Achieved fields. You can also click the calendar button to choose a date.
    3. Click Save when you have finished.
