Once you have assigned objectives to students in the Assignment Book, you can generate practices.
When you generate a practice, Accelerated Math chooses the objectives to include from those that are at the Assigned () or Ready to Work () stage. Practices have assisted-response (multiple-choice) problems. They reinforce what the student has learned about the objectives. Since they are individualized, practices encourage cooperative learning among students.
Who can do this with default capabilities?
District Administrators, School Administrators, Teachers
Follow these steps to generate practices:
Select the green Accelerated Math tile (shown below) on the Home page; then, select Assignment Book.
The Assignment Book lists the students who are in one class. The class name is shown above the list of students. If you have access to more than one Accelerated Math school, use the School drop-down list to choose the school for which you want to view a class Assignment Book. If you have more than one class, and you want to select a different class, click the Class drop-down list and select the class name. If you want to generate practices for a specific group, select that group from the Group drop-down list.
The Renaissance Place Print Plug-in is only necessary if you are generating paper (not online) assignments and you are printing the assignments directly instead of previewing them first. If you need the plug-in, click the link and download and install the Renaissance Place Print Plug-in before you continue. Then, go back to your class Assignment Book.
Check the box next to each student who needs a practice. If you want to generate practices for all students in the class, you do not need to select the students before going on to the next step.
Click Generate Practice on the left side of the page.
On the next page, under Assignment Format, click Online or Paper.
Click the assignment size that you want to use: small (10 minutes by default - see the Practice preference), medium (20 minutes), or large (30 minutes).
The right side of the page shows you which objectives can be included on the practice. It may also show you that some students cannot receive new practices because they don't have objectives assigned, they already have unscored practices, or you have reached your student capacity limit for Accelerated Math.
Online assignments will be generated immediately. You will return to the Assignment Book. You can view a student's online assignments when you click the student's name and go to the Student Detail page.
By default, the assignments will print directly to your default printer. Click Done when printing is complete. (Note: You need the Renaissance Place Print Plug-in to print directly to your computer. If you don't have the plug-in installed, the program will notify you that you need to install the plug-in and then reprint the assignment. Click the link provided to go to the page where you can download the plug-in; click here to for step-by-step instructions.)
If you have chosen to preview assignments using the Paper Assignments preference, the assignment(s) will open in your PDF reader in the browser window or a separate window. You can print the assignments.
Note: If you want to print assignments double-sided, and your printer is capable of duplex printing, use the Paper Assignments preference to enable duplex printing.
Classroom preferences that affect practices:
Sets the default practice size, the number of minutes required for each assignment size, the percentage of problems to include from review objectives, and whether some objectives may be automatically assigned for students who have no assigned objectives.
Sets whether a student's next practice generates automatically after the student completes the current assignment or it is scored in the AccelScan Scanning software, with Renaissance Responders, or with NEO 2.
For paper assignments only, this preference affects the font size, arrangement of possible answers, and whether the objectives are listed on the assignment. The preference also sets whether duplex printing is enabled, whether you preview assignments before printing, and whether fonts are embedded in assignments.
