Generating Extended Response Assignments

Follow the steps below to generate an Extended Response assignment for students in a class. Extended Response assignments provide challenging problems and projects that emphasize problem solving and high-order thinking skills.

Who can do this with default capabilities?

District Administrators, School Administrators, Teachers

  1. Select the green Accelerated Math tile (shown below) on the Home page; then, select Extended Response.

    The Extended Response page lists the students who are in one class. The class name is shown above the list of students. If you have access to more than one Accelerated Math school, use the School drop-down list to choose the school for which you want to generate class extended response assignments. If you have more than one class, and you want to select a different class, click the Class drop-down list and select the class name.

  2. Note: If you see an Install Plug-In link, click the link and download and install the Renaissance Place Print plug-in before you continue. Then, go back to your class Extended Response page.

  3. Check the box next to each student who needs an extended response assignment. If you want to generate assignments for all students in the class, you don't need to select them before going on to the next step.
  4. Click Generate on the left side of the page.
  5. On the next page, check the box(es) next to what you want to generate - the assignment and/or the answer key. (The answer key helps you score the assignment.)
  6. Next, check the box for each objective that you want to include on the assignment.
  7. If you selected more than one student, check the boxes that are at the intersection of the objective columns and the student rows. If you want to select an objective for all students, check the box next to the objective number at the top of the column. (To see the objective description and library, position your mouse over the objective number. You can also scroll through the list at the top of the page.)

    Only some of the objectives in the list will be shown. Click to go to the next group of objectives, to go back one group, to go to the last group in the objective list, or to go to the first group. You can also use the drop-down list in the middle of the arrows to choose a specific group of objective numbers. To search for a specific objective, click , enter key terms, and click Search. The list will be limited to the objectives that matched your search; to see the full list again, click Show All.

    Notice that this page uses symbols to show you the status of each student's work on each objective. To see the name of a symbol, position your mouse over the symbol or click Legend.

    Note: If you have reached your student capacity limit for Accelerated Math, this page will notify you and will show you which students cannot receive assignments.

  8. Next, click Generate.
  9. By default, the assignments will print directly to your default printer. Click Done when printing is complete. (Note: You need a print plug-in to print directly to your printer. If you don't have the plug-in installed, the program will notify you that you need to install the plug-in and then reprint the assignments. Click the link provided to go to a page where you can download the plug-in; click here for step-by-step instructions.)
  10. If you have chosen to preview assignments using the Paper Assignments preference, the assignment(s) will open in your PDF reader in the browser window or a separate window; you can print the assignment when it opens.

If you want to print assignments double-sided, and your printer is capable of duplex printing, use the Paper Assignments preference to enable duplex printing.
