Changing the Practice Preference for Your Class

By following the steps below, you can set practice sizes (in minutes), choose the default size, and choose whether automatic assigning is allowed under certain circumstances. You can only change this preference for one class at a time so that you can choose different options for different classes.

In Accelerated Math, practice size is defined in minutes, not by the number of problems. By default, small practices should take about 10 minutes, medium practices about 20 minutes, and large practices about 30 minutes. Accelerated Math calculates the time needed using the difficulty level assigned to each problem; this means that the actual number of problems per assignment will vary.

Who can do this with default capabilities?

District Administrators, School Administrators, Teachers

Teachers can change this preference for their classes. Administrators can change the preference for any class in their school(s). District staff and school staff cannot change the settings.

To change the preference settings, follow these steps:

  1. Select the green Accelerated Math tile (shown below) on the Home page; then, select Preferences.

If you have access to more than one school, use the School drop-down list above the list of class preferences to choose a school. If you have more than one class, click the Class drop-down list and select a class.

  2. Click Practice in the list of class preferences. You will go to the Practice Preference page.
  3. Default Size: To change the default assignment size, click Small, Medium, or Large.
  4. Duration: To set the approximate number of minutes that each assignment size should last, click in each blank, delete the old values, and type new values.

Review: To set the percentage of problems on practices that can be review problems from mastered objectives, click in the blank, delete the old percentage, and type a new percentage.

Automatically Assign Objectives: Click the drop-down list and choose one of the settings. 0-Off means no objectives will be assigned automatically. All other numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, or 5) set the number of objectives that will be automatically assigned to students who have no objectives assigned and no objectives ready for review. These objectives will be assigned when the student's next practice is generated. Note: If you choose a larger number, please note that the number is a maximum, and Accelerated Math may assign fewer objectives if fewer are needed to create a practice that is the default size.

If you want to use the default (original) settings for this preference, click Default.

  5. When you have finished changing the preference settings, click Save.
