Editing the Mastery Criteria for Objectives

Follow the steps below to change the requirements (mastery criteria) that students must meet to master specific objectives from a Standard (Assignment Book) objective list. When you edit objectives, you are only changing the criteria for your objective list, not other objective lists. However, your changes will affect every class that uses the list. You can print the Objective List Report to see the mastery criteria for the objectives in your class Assignment Book.

Who can do this with default capabilities?

District Administrators, District Staff, School Administrators, School Staff, Teachers

List owners can change mastery criteria for their lists. School administrators can also change mastery criteria for lists created in their schools, and district administrators can change mastery criteria for all lists, including library lists.

Note: To change the criteria for passing Extended Response objectives, use the Extended Response Preference instead.

  1. Select the green Accelerated Math tile (shown below) on the Home page; then, select Assignment Book.

The Assignment Book lists the students who are in one class. The class name is shown above the list of students. If you have access to more than one Accelerated Math school, use the School drop-down list to choose the school for which you want to view a class Assignment Book. If you have more than one class, and you want to select a different class, click the Class drop-down list and select the class name. If the objective list is being used by a specific group, select the group from the Group drop-down list.

Select the green Accelerated Math tile (shown below) on the Home page; then, select Libraries.

The Libraries page will list the libraries that are available for one school. If you have access to more than one school, and you want to choose a different school, click the School drop-down list and select the other school.

  2. Click Manage Objectives on the left side of the page. The Manage Objectives page will appear next.
  3. If you came from the Libraries page, click the Objective List drop-down menu and select the list in which you want to change mastery criteria.
  4. Click Edit Objective Mastery on the Manage Objectives page.
  5. On the Select Objectives page, you can choose to edit mastery criteria by objective or library. The objectives are listed by default. If you want to change the mastery criteria for all objectives in a library instead of selecting individual objectives, click Library above the list of objectives.
  6. The Select Objectives page lists the objectives or libraries that are used in the objective list you selected. (For more information on a specific objective or library, you can click the name.) If you are viewing the list of objectives, this page also lists the practice, test, and review mastery criteria for each objective.
  7. Check the box next to each objective or library that needs changes in the mastery criteria. If you are viewing objectives, you can select all objectives in the list by checking the box next to Objective at the top of the list.

The practice mastery criteria determines when students can advance from the Ready to Work () or Working () stage to Ready to Test (). The test mastery criteria determines when students can advance from Ready to Test or Testing to Mastered (). The review mastery criteria determines when students can advance from Mastered to Reviewed (). (Review problems appear on practices starting two weeks after an objective is mastered.) Each set of mastery criteria has two numbers. A mastery criteria of 5/6 would mean that the student must answer 5 out of the 6 most recent problems correctly. 3/4 would mean the student must answer 3 of the 4 most recent problems correctly.

Only a few of the objectives are listed at one time (based on the setting of the General preference). Click to go to the next group of objectives, to go back one group, to go to the last group in the objective list, or to go to the first group. You can also use the drop-down list in the middle of the arrows to choose a specific group of objective numbers. To search for specific objectives, click , enter key terms, and click Search; the list will be limited to the objectives that matched your search. To see all objectives again, click Show All.

To see or hide the standards related to objectives, click (objectives in bold text are related to standards). To see sample problems, click in the row for an objective. If the icon is available, click it to see a worked example, which shows you the steps required to solve a sample problem and the answer.

Objectives marked with are core objectives.

After selecting the objectives or libraries that need mastery criteria changes, click Edit Mastery.

  8. On the Edit Objective Mastery page, you can change the practice, test, and/or review mastery criteria. Check the box that indicates you want to change the criteria (Change practice mastery, Change test mastery, and/or Change review mastery). Then, click in the blanks and type new values.
  9. Note: If you have changed the mastery criteria, and you would like to return to the default (original) mastery criteria settings, click Default.

  10. After making your changes, click Save.

You will return to the Select Objectives page. If you want to change the criteria for other objectives or libraries, repeat steps 6-8. When you've finished, click Done on the Select Objectives page.
