Groups and Group Sets

  • cohort group: A group of schools who all share a single factor (population percentages, average income levels, etc.).
  • excluded group: A default "group" made of schools who are not in any other groups.
  • exemplar group: A cohort group of schools where the shared factor is the achievement of a specific goal (for example, all schools with median test scores in the 90th percentile).
  • goal group: A cohort group of schools where the shared factor is the assignment of a specific goal to reach (for example, a group of all schools where you want all the students in the school to be doing 5 hours of outside-of-class reading by the end of the school year) .
  • group set: A single arrangement of schools into groups—a "group of grouped schools." A school can belong to multiple groups and group sets.
  • non-participant group: A group whose members are being excluded from a particular analysis or action.
  • participant group: A group whose members are being included in a particular analysis or action.
